Henrie Tallies Five Points in OT Win

Kayla Henrie netted a two goals on Sunday, including an overtime game winner, to send the UL soccer team past Southern Miss in a 3-2 victory at Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
Henrie's two scores were part of a five point effort to lead the Cajuns (2-1-1) past the Golden Eagles (1-2-1) en route to their second victory of the season. The UL win knots the all-time series at 2-2-1 between the two schools.
USM's Brooke Hendrix opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the first half. Henrie then netted her first goal of the game, an equalizer in the 13th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Her goal was scored with persistence as the ball came loose in front of the Golden Eagle goal. Excellent positioning saw Henrie at the right place at the right time for the easy goal.
"We moved Kayla to outside midfield," head coach Scot Wieland said. "She finds herself in promising spots on the field, because she sees the game well."
Allyson Voisin gave the Cajuns a huge boast in the 45th minute, when she launched a brilliant shot from 20 yards out to give UL a 2-1 lead going into halftime. On the play, Henrie earned an assist, her third point of the half. The goal was the first of Voisin's career.
Southern Miss wasted little time in the second half evening the score. Jordan Wagner broke free before she buried a top-shelf goal, leveling the tally at 2-2.
Cajuns keeper Amanda Moorefield was the star for the team in the second half, making all three of her crucial saves to keep the tie intact. Two of the saves came on breakaways.
Moorefield's excellent play would set the stage for Henrie to earn her second goal of the goal, a well-timed score in the 95th minute. Like her first tally, Henrie found herself in great positioning on the USM far post to drive home the golden goal.
"It's great to come out here and get an overtime win," said Wieland. "After a tie on Friday, you want to end the weekend with that victory.
We are getting healthy and our reserve players are stepping up to help. I am very proud of the effort Amanda put in for her to help send the game to the extra period."
