The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to in-state rival LSU on Sunday at Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
The Cajuns' defense held their ground, giving up just five shots and to shut out the SEC powerhouse in the first half. Unfortunately, the Tigers would break-through in second, scoring three goals off 14 shots.
After 67 minutes of scoreless play, LSU's Natalie Martineau broke the stalemate when she scored a put back goal with assists to Addie Eggleston and Alex Arlitt. Later in the half, Carlie Banks and Arlitt each added goals to bring the final score to 3-0. The goals were scored in the 78 and 88 minutes, respectively.
UL's Amanda Moorefield put together a solid outing in net, recording five saves to keep the score close throughout. Three of Moorefield's saves came in one-on-one situations.
The Cajuns' best scoring opportunity happened in the 49th minute of the game, when senior defenseman Allison Baker ripped hard left foot from 14 yards outs, forcing LSU keeper Mo Isom to make a great diving save.
The Louisiana soccer team moves to 1-1-0 after their opening weekend as they prepare to host Southeastern Louisiana next Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Southern Miss next Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Post match coverage and stats will be available on RaginCajuns.com.
