Louisiana alumnus Kelly Brown-LaMaison has been named assistant cross country and track and field coach as announced by the University of Louisiana Athletic Department.
Her hiring is pending approval from the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
Head track and field coach Lon Badeaux commented, “It was important to me to bring in a local coach who is familiar with the area and the program. Both of us ran at UL and we know what it takes to make this program successful.”
Brown-LaMaison spent four years as a Ragin' Cajun, running with the cross country and track and field teams from 1998-02. She served as a team co-captain in 2001 and 2002.
“It feels like coming home,” said LaMaison. “I am both honored and privileged to coach for the university & program of my mentors: Coaches Lancon, Nolan & Lemaire.”
For the past four years, LaMaison has served as the track and field assistant and head cross country coach at Lafayette High School. In her tenure at LHS, she revamped the bewildered Lions cross country program. When LaMaison left the program, the men's and women's team ranked top-4 and top-6 in the state of Louisiana, respectively.
Her accomplishments garnered her multiple honors, including three-time District 3-5A Cross Country Coach of the Year honors from 2007-09. She was also recognized as the All-Acadiana Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2009.
Prior to her time at Lafayette High, LaMaison served as the track and field coach at Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. In her time, she was named district coach of the year and All-Acadiana coach of the year in 2006-07
Brown-LaMaison was elected Vice President of the LATFCA and served as the Race Director for the Thru the Jungle & Monster Dash 5K. She is a professional athletic trainer and is a United States Track and Field Association Level 2 Coach for endurance, sprints, hurdles and relays.
She received her bachelor's degree in kinesiology before returning to UL to earn a certificate in physical education. Later, she returned to UL to pursue her teaching certificate in secondary education.
“Having the opportunity to coach with Coach Badeaux Is pretty amazing,” said LaMaison. “He's coming over here very accomplished and with high aspirations. We share the same vision along with the rest of the coaching staff … We want to win.”
Brown-LaMaison is married to Jared LaMaison. The couple has two sons, Landon and Jaxon.
