The 25th ranked Ragin' Cajuns surrendered one big inning as they fell to Houston by a score of 7-2 to open the NCAA Austin Regional on Friday.  The Cougars plated five runs in the third inning as they dropped the Cajuns into the loser's bracket.

Ashley Brignac (30-6) went the distance in the circle for the Cajuns, giving up ten hits, but just three outside of the third inning while the Cougars plated six earned runs.

At the plate Nerissa Myers posted the Cajuns only hit and reached base twice.

The Cajuns (49-10) and Cougars put a combined three runners on base in the first two innings, however all three were thrown out on the base paths as the two sides went down scoreless to begin the contest.

Houston (41-16) would get on the board first by plating five runs in the third inning.  The Cajuns would retire the first batter, but the Cougars rattled off seven consecutive hits, including a double and a triple, to jump out to the 5-0 lead.

The Cougars would tack on one more run in the fourth inning thanks to a bases-loaded ground out to pull ahead 6-0.

Louisiana would mount its first threat in the fifth inning as they plated two runs, both with two outs.  Brianna Cherry got things started with a one-out walk.  The Cajuns loaded the bases with two outs when Natalie Fernandez was hit by a pitch and Katie Smith drew a walk in an 11-pitch at bat.

The Cajuns would scratch across their first run when Nerissa Myers was hit with a pitch on the ninth pitch of an at bat.  After Amanda Crabtree (19-8) fell behind Christi Orgeron 2-0, the Cougars pulled their ace in favor of Diedre Outon.  Orgeron then reached on an error to plate the Cajuns second run and pull UL to within four at 6-2.

Houston would tack on one unearned run in the seventh inning give them the 7-2 run.

The Cajuns will next take on Texas State who fell to No.3 Texas on Friday night.  The Cajuns and Bobcats are set for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch in an elimination game.
