UL Performs Well in Day 1 of LSU Relays

After day one in the books at the LSU Relays, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's track and field teams had nine individuals place within the top-10 and five others qualified for the finals of their respective events on Friday at the Bernie Moore Track & Field Stadium in Baton Rouge.
Senior Jasmine Anderson placed third in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles on Friday, running the event in 13.50 seconds. Another senior, Taryn Simmons, qualified for the 400-meter hurdles finals with a time of 1:03.62.
Both the men's and women's 4x100-meter relay teams will race in the finals on Saturday.
The men's team consisting of Kenneth Bellard, Kelvan Turner, O'Daylon Thibeaux and Justin Jones earned sixth with a mark of 41.44. On the women's side, Anderson, Jasmine Manuel, Morgan Breaux and Alexis Malone put together a qualifying time of 46.95 seconds.
UL had three individuals finish inside the top-10 in the men's hammer. Jacob Domingue notched a distance of 168-9 (51.43m) for seventh. Jacob Fontenot earned eighth, tossing the hammer 167-4 (51.00m) and Garrett Harkless claimed 10th with a distance of 159-5 (48.60m).
Senior Brent Adams cleared a height if 6-4 (1.93m) to place ninth in the men's high jump on Friday. Meanwhile, Jeri Ann Sills earned ninth throwing the javelin a distance of 129-8 (39.53m).
Zach France ran the 5,000m race in 15:55.01 setting a new season best and placing ninth overall in the event.
In the women's long jump, Jasmine Manuel notched eighth with a leap of 18-7 ¾ (5.68m) and Angela Roberts earned ninth by marking a distance of 18-6 (5.64m).
"Today's performances show the progress of the team," said interim head coach Paula Ogunbanjo. "We have several athletes in the finals and several top-10 finishes. Tomorrow's competition should be fun to watch and hopefully we'll finish out the meet strong."
The Ragin' Cajuns return for the final day of action Saturday morning beginning with the women's 1,500-meter run. Live results of the LSU Relays will be available online at RaginCajuns.com.
