Box Score
Louisiana's women's basketball team put on a very strong performance Tuesday night in a 69-57 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.
The Cajuns (2-4, 0-0) were very stingy on defense to start the game keeping the Lady Lions (3-3, 0-0) scoreless for the first eight-plus minutes and forcing eight turnovers. UL led 12-0 after the second media timeout with Krystal Motley providing six points and two steals.
Kemi Rotibi was inserted into the starting lineup with Mercedes Johnson being out with an injury and provided a spark for the Ragin' Cajuns. She scored back-to-back buckets including an impressive post move on the block to give Louisiana a 16-2 edge.
UL kept its distance for most of the half as Motley drained a three from the arc and Rotibi made another basket in the paint to keep the Cajuns up by 14, by a score of 26-12.
Senior Kelli Jenkins led the comeback charge by pouring in 10 straight points for Southeastern Louisiana as they closed the half on a 13-2 spurt cutting the lead to 28-25 heading into the break.
Motley carried the Cajuns in the first half with 13 points while Rotibi had six points and three blocks.
SELU was held to 29.6 percent shooting in the half and were led by senior Kelli Jenkins with 10 points.
The half started off with hot shooting from both teams and Southeastern gained their first lead of the game on a three pointer from Amber Crenshaw for a 34-33 with 16:54 remaining.
Baskets continued to fall as the squads traded buckets until the Cajuns used a mini run of six straight points to build a 44-41 lead.
SELU took their final lead of the game 47-46 with 7:49 remaining and it was all Motley from there on.
She hit two back-to-back clutch three balls to give the Cajuns a 54-49 advantage. A lead Louisiana never gave back.
Motley ripped the Lady Lions defense apart as she was responsible for the majority of the Cajuns points down the stretch.
The senior knocked down several jumpers and set up teammates with open looks. Motley finished the game with a career high 27 points and four assists on 7-of-10 from the field and a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.
The Cajuns shot 65 percent in the second half and a season high 50 percent for the game.
Rotibi also had a strong performance finishing with a double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocks. Josie West added 11 points and six rebounds making her the third Ragin' Cajun in double figures.
Southeastern had two players in double figures. Aja Gibson scored 17 and Kelli Jenkins ended with 10.
UL returns to Earl K. Long Gym after a 2-2 road trip to face Southern on December 3 at 2:00 p.m.
