“The weekend was very encouraging,” head women's tennis coach Greg Harkins said. “The format gave us the opportunity to use multiple line-ups throughout the tournament. It was great to see the team working together round after round maintaining a high level of play with each opponent.”
The team won five of their seven rounds of play in a Fed Cup style tournament. After splitting their rounds on day one, the Cajuns stormed back to win four straight rounds on Saturday to move into first overall.
On the final day, the UL played well but just missed out on winning the tournament title to UAB.
Junior Audrey Wooland played lights out for the Cajuns as she went undefeated on the weekend in both singles and doubles play.
“If you are consistently competitive and you will always have an opportunity to win,” Harkins said. “We have a great schedule lined up for the spring, and this weekend was a good test for the battles we will face in 2012.”
The Cajuns return to action on Jan. 21, 2012 when they go to Rice to open the spring season.
