Cajuns Fall to Tigers in Very Close Match

Louisiana's Ragin's Cajuns took the momentum of a Friday night shutout into Baton Rouge Sunday, but lost a hard fought match, 1-0 to Louisiana State.
The Cajuns (4-4-0) equaled the Tigers four shots on goal during the match, but a 19th minute goal off of the head of Carlie Banks was enough to give the Tigers (2-3-1) the victory.
"The first half was not our best, but in saying that we only gave up one shot on goal," head coach Scot Wieland said. "We gave up a goal on a set piece and that was our only mistake in the entire match."
"But, to the girls' credit, we really took it to them in the second half," Wieland explained. "We had control of the ball the entire half and had a few chances inside the box."
Amanda Moorefield (4-4) was tagged with the loss in goal for UL but not before she made three saves throughout the match.
Louisiana State topped the Cajuns in the total shots category 12-7, but as mention earlier, the two sides were even with four shots on goal. Chelsea Balestra led the Cajuns with two total shots, including one on goal.
The match marked just the second time this season that the Cajuns have been shutout. It was also the Cajuns fourth match with a one-goal differential. UL is 2-2 in those games.
"I think a strong second half like that, coupled with a win over an unbeaten Nicholls State team on Friday, really gives the girls some confidence going into this week," Wieland said.
The Cajuns return to the pitch in one week when they travel to Hammond to take on Southeastern Louisiana at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 19.
