UL Opens Alumni Weekend With a Win

Louisiana opened its three-game, non-conference series and Alumni Weekend celebration Friday evening with a 13-2 win over Le Moyne College at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
The Ragin' Cajuns (24-14) upped their season-best win streak to 10 games - the longest streak since opening the 2007 season with 10 consecutive wins.
The two squads continue the series on Saturday at 6 p.m. As part of the Alumni Weekend celebration, Louisiana will honor members of the 2000 College World Series team in a pre-game ceremony.
The Dolphins (21-22) scored first, however it was short lived as the Cajuns countered with four runs in their half of the first inning.
Kyle Olasin and Matt Goulas led off with walks and Chad Keefer was hit by a pitch from Le Moyne starter Cory Nelson to load the bases with no outs. Jordan Poirrier doubled home Olasin and Goulas, and then with two outs Alex Fuselier drove a single up the middle to score Keefer and Poirrier.
Le Moyne struck for a run a second consecutive inning getting a Brett Botsford RBI single to center field to trim the UL lead to 4-2.
That would be the final run off of Cajuns starter Zach Osborne who held the Dolphins scoreless and limited them two just two hits over his final 5 2/3 innings on the mound.
UL continued to add to the lead scoring on a passed ball and error in the second inning, then getting a sacrifice fly from Olasin and Tyler Frederick in the third and fourth innings, respectively, for an 8-2 advantage after four complete.
That was more than enough run support as Cajuns pitchers faced only three batters over the minimum in the final seven innings.
Osborne collected the win for UL, improving his season mark to 6-2. Joey Satriano and Randall Bulliard pitched one scoreless inning of relief.
Fuselier tallied a game-high five RBI, matching his season-and career-high set earlier this season against Arkansas State. His second two-run single of the game came in the sixth inning and upped the lead to 10-2 marking the Cajuns' 10th double figure run total of the season.
Nelson was tagged with the loss for the Dolphins after surrendering seven runs over two innings. He issued four of Le Moyne's 10 walks which combined with three hit by pitches gave UL 13 free passes.
In addition to their overall win streak, the Cajuns extended their "Tigue" Moore Field win streak to seven games and non-conference win streak to five games.
Louisiana improved to 17-8 at "The Tigue" assuring the squad of its 15th consecutive winning season at the facility.
The Cajuns and Dolphins met for the first time since March 2005. Louisiana now holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series.
