Men Lose to No. 37 LSU, 6-1

The Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 37 LSU on Thursday afternoon in Baton Rouge, La., in their fourth match against a ranked opponent.

The Cajuns (2-6) will now have to travel to Troy, Ala., to take on No. 72 Troy, now one of the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference.

For the Cajuns it was a hard-fought loss, coming up just short beginning with the doubles point.

The team of Tomasz Krzyszkowski and Robert Voss fought tooth and nail with Julien Gauthier and James Turbervill, but lost 9-7. The same was true for Yanick Mandl and Carlin Murray as they fell 9-7 to Neal Skupski and Roger Anderson of LSU.

In singles play LSU took control, winning the first sets at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 slots 6-1. However, in the No. 1 spot, Javier Pulgar hung tight with No. 50 ranked Neal Skupski, pushing the match all the way to 6-5 in the first set.

Robert Voss also stayed close with James Turbervill, getting it to 4-3 in the first set before losing 6-3.

In the end though, LSU found a way to pull out the win. Skupski pulled out a 7-5 win in the first set and went on to win the second set handily 6-3 for the point.

Krzyszkowski was the first Cajun to fall in singles play, taken out by Carlsson 6-1, 6-2. Voss was next to lose, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Turbervill, giving LSU a 3-0 lead. The match was sealed when Schneider lost to Mark Bowtell 6-1, 6-4, giving LSU a 4-0 lead and technically the win.

Carlin Murray showed why he is one of the most cerebral players on the team, battling back from his 6-1 loss in the first set to win the second set 6-2 and take a 4-2 lead in the third set. He helped score the Cajuns lone point with his 6-2 win in the third set.

Yanick Mandl also managed to steal a set, knocking off Stefan Szacinski 6-4 in the second set to force a third, but lost 6-2.
