BASES NOTED
● Louisiana meets Miami University's Redhawks in a three-game weekend series for the first time. Teams have met only twice before (2005 & 2008).
● This is the second of four straight weekends at "The Tigue" to open the season. First road weekend set isn't until March 19-21 at South Alabama.
● The Ragin' Cajuns are off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2007. That season, UL began 10-0.
● The 2007 season is also the last in which UL swept multiple non-conference weekend series.
● After one weekend, Louisiana ranks 18th in the nation in average attendance with an average of 2,758.
● Cajuns pitching has yet to surrender a hit that has led to an earned run. The only earned run scored on the staff came off a
steal of home.
● UL needed only four relievers to complete a sweep of Nicholls State last weekend.
● Jordan Poirrier, who redshirted in 2009, returned with a fury. He hit a home run, scored five runs and led all Cajuns with six RBI vs. Nicholls.
● Five players made their Cajuns debut last weekend - T.J. Geith, Lance Marvel, Daniel Nichols, Joey Satriano and Trask Switzenberg.
● Of the 22 hits vs. Nicholls, a total of 10 were extra baggers.
● The pitching rotation remains the same - Zach Osborne (Fri.), Justin Robichaux (Sat.) and T.J. Geith (Sun.).
● UL is in its 33rd season calling M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field home. The Cajuns are 712-272-2(.723) in the park, posting winning marks each of the last 14 seasons and a 219-79-1 (.734) record since 2000.
SERIES HISTORY (Tied at 1-1): The Ragin' Cajuns and Redhawks have met only twice before, doing so in the 2005 and 2008 seasons. Miami is making its third trip to the Hub City. This is the first time the two programs meet in a weekend series. Each team has won once. MU participated in the 2005 Mardi Gras Baseball Classic and met the Cajuns on Feb. 26, 2005 (UL won 4-3). The Redhawks came back to Lafayette in 2008 and posted a 3-1 win over the Cajuns on March 1. The winner of this weekend's series will take a lead in the all-time series.
LAST MEETING: March 1, 2008 (MIA won 3-1): Miami scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning, while the bullpen held 25th-ranked Louisiana to four hits during the final six innings. Luke Wagley suffered the loss in relief, allowing two runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. Miami's Bobby Oberschlake gave up just one hit in 2 1/3 innings in relief, earning the victory. After three scoreless innings, UL cracked the scoreboard first in the fourth. Miami provided the equalizing run in the sixth and put up the eventual game-winning run when Tommy Nurre laced a two-out RBI double to right center to plate Jon Edgington for a 2-1 Miami lead in the 10th.
UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
● The Ragin' Cajuns play their first mid-week game of the 2010 season on Wednesday, March 3 in Hammond against Southeastern Louisiana. Game time is 6 p.m.
● Next weekend the Cajuns are back at "The Tigue" starting a 10-game homestand. First up is a three-game set with 2009 CWS participant Southern Miss.
