Cajuns Still in Hunt Despite Road Loss

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns soccer team had a chance on Thursday night to take the driver seat in the race for a Sun Belt Tournament berth, and seemed to poised to do so late in their match at Florida Atlantic.
UL entered the final minutes of the match with a 1-0 lead, but a 90th minute scored by the Owls forced the Cajuns first overtime match in Sun Belt play this season.
FAU carried their momentum from the late score into the extra frame and put the winning goal away less than three minutes in to defeat the Cajuns by a final score of 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Cajuns got the on the board first in the 77th minute. Jordan Blevins put the unassisted strike in the back of the net to give UL the early 1-0 lead.
The Cajuns (8-10-0, 3-6-0) defense and goalie Amanda Moorefield stayed strong as 11 FAU shots didn't find the back of the net, including six that Moorefield saved.
However, FAU got a late corner kick in the final minute of the game, and with three seconds left on the clock, FAU's Anhnhi Tran scored her first goal of the season to force overtimes.
On their second shot of the overtime period, FAU was able to close out the match as Jesse Shugg scored in the 93rd minute to give the Owls the 2-1 win.
FAU (5-11-0, 4-5-0) outshot UL 14-11 on the night and 8-3 in shots on goal. Five different Cajuns recorded two shots.
The Cajuns now find themselves tied with Arkansas State for the final spot in the Sun Belt Tournament. If the tournament started today, the Cajuns would qualify by virtue of a win over the Red Wolves earlier this season.
UL has two matches remaining this season, with both coming at home. The Cajuns will start the final stretch on Sunday when they host FIU with kick-off set for 12:00 noon.
