? CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Scott Hawkins continues to climb several Cajuns' career charts. He is tied for first in all-time career home runs with Ron Robicheaux (1983-86) at 39, and recently moved into fourth for career games started (190) and total bases (384), and stands at fifth in runs scored (151) and at bats (718), and needs just two doubles to enter into a three-way, fifth-place tie in career two-baggers.
? EAST CAROLINA ALL-TIME SERIES (UL leads 2-0)
The Cajuns and Pirates have never met before in regular season competition. The only previous meetings took place in the 2000 NCAA Regional held at “Tigue” Moore Field in Lafayette. Louisiana won both times to begin a postseason run which ended with a trip to Omaha.
? WELCOME TO NORTH CAROLINA
This weekend marks the Ragin' Cajuns first appearance in the State of North Carolina in the sport of baseball.
? OTHER CAJUNS TO PLAY IN GREENVILLE
The Cajuns' football team made several trips to Greenville in the 1970s and 1980s. The last Cajuns athletics team to visit Greenville was the men's basketball team during the 1998-99 season when Jessie Evans and his squad fell 75-69 on Nov. 24, 1998.
? LAST TIME VERSUS EAST CAROLINA
The Cajuns and Pirates tangled in the 2000 NCAA Regional at Lafayette held at “Tigue” Moore Field. Andy Gros pitched Louisiana past ECU in Saturday's winner's bracket finals. Gros, a freshman, shutout ECU over the final six innings and UL rallied from down 3-1 after he entered. Then on Sunday, in the regional championship game, the Cajuns broke out the big bats. Home runs in the third inning by Ryan Gill and Tommy Clark deflated the dog-tired Pirates. The home runs produced a four-spot that vaulted UL into a 6-3 lead. In the fourth inning, the Cajuns tacked on two more runs for an 8-3 edge. That was enough cushion for Scott Dohmann who relaxed after a rough first inning. UL won the game 8-5 after Trey Bullinger nailed down the save in the ninth inning. The Cajuns advanced to meet No. 1 national seed South Carolina with the regional victory over ECU.
