Louisiana reaches 40-win mark for 18th time in school history; seventh time since 2013
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mark Collins had three hits and drove in a career-best four RBI, including two on a first-inning home run, and No. 25-ranked Louisiana scored runs in the first five innings to defeat Lipscomb, 10-4, on Saturday in the NCAA Starkville Regional at Dudy Noble Field.

The win marked the 18th time in school history that Louisiana (40-24) reached the 40-win mark and the seventh time overall since 2013. Louisiana will face the loser of host Mississippi State (41-17) and Cincinnati (38-20) in an elimination game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Collins, who finished 3-for-4, gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 2-0 lead when he drilled the eighth pitch from Lipscomb starter Jace Trautner (1-4) for an opposite-field home run to right. The sophomore added a two-run single in the second for a 4-0 lead after Noah Lewis drew a two-out walk and Blaze Rodriguez followed with a single to left.

Lipscomb (29-26) closed to within 4-2 in the third inning on Jordan Thomas' two-run homer to center but the Cajuns would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Colt Brown homered off of Bisons reliever Jackson Lee for a 5-2 lead.

Louisiana added a run in the fourth on when Rodriguez drove in Josh Lim with an RBI single and led 8-2 after five innings when Brown scored on Lim's RBI single to center and Drew Markle scored on a wild pitch.

The Cajuns added two more runs in the eighth after Lipscomb cut the lead to 8-4 when Lewis reached on a bunt single and scored from first when Rodriguez followed with a bunt single and moved to third on a throwing error.

Rodriguez finished 4-for-5 at the plate for Louisiana, which won its first NCAA Regional game in Starkville in four attempts and recorded at least one postseason win for the 14th consecutive appearance dating back to 1999.

Brown added three hits for the Ragin' Cajuns with Lim finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

Parker Smith (3-3), the second of four pitchers used by Louisiana, earned the victory after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Starter Ty Roman scattered three hits and struck out four in 3.0 innings of work, with Sawyer Pruitt tossing 2.1 innings of hitless relief.
