LAFAYETTE ? Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns won their third straight game Wednesday night, shutting out the Texas Southern Tigers by a score of 13-0 to move to 4-5-1 on the season.
Scott Hawkins smashed his third home run of the season in the fifth inning, giving him 35 for his career and moving him into a tie for third place in school history with Jonathan Lucroy.
The Cajuns posted their 13 runs on 15 hits and eight walks, with a slew of hitters posting RBIs. Brian Bowman, Scott Hawkins, Tyler Benzel, Les Smith and Chad Keefer all drove in two runs, while Greg Fontenot, Travis Whipple, and Kyle Bostick each had one RBI.
Bostick posted his performance of the season from the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Travis Whipple hit safely in three of his six at bats and crossed the plate four times, while Scott Hawkins was 2-for-3 on the night with two runs scored and two RBIs. Les Smith was 2-for-4, and Chad Keefer went 2-for-5 with his first triple as a Cajun.
Blake Wascom picked up the win, leaving the game on a pitch count after three innings and giving up no runs on just one hit and striking out three.
Other Cajuns to spend time on the mound included in order Randall Bulliard (3 IP, 2 Ks), Matt Lackie (1 IP, 3 Ks), Patrick Holloway (2/3 IP, 1 K), Garrett Larsen (1/3 IP, 0 Ks) and Gregory Harmon (1 IP, 1 K). Only Wascom, Bulliard and Harmon gave up hits, one each, and Bulliard and Holloway each allowed one walk. The staff combined for the first shutout of an opponent since March 2 of last year, when the Cajuns blanked Southern Miss.
Danilo Carcamo took the loss for the Tigers in just one inning pitched, allowing five hits and seven runs, all earned.
The Cajuns attacked early with two runs in the first inning. Tyler Benzel picked up the RBIs with a double to left center, scoring Travis Whipple and Scott Hawkins. Chad Keefer added two more runs with a standup triple to center field, the first of his career, scoring Tyler Benzel and Les Smith. Kyle Bostick drove in Thad Griffen, and Brian Bowman hit a single scoring two more to complete the offensive outburst. The Cajuns led 7-0 heading to the second.
Louisiana added three more in the third when Bostick, Bowman and Whipple scored on hits from Fontenot, Whipple, and Smith respectively, making the score 10-0.
Scott Hawkins put one over the fence in the fifth for two more runs and moving him up the career charts.

· This was the first shutout the Cajuns posted since a 5-0 blanking of Southern Miss last year on March 2.
· That same game was the last time the Cajuns posted a combined shutout before tonight on appearances from Hunter Moody, Matt Broussard and Justin Robichaux. Wascom, Bulliard, Lackie, Holloway, Larsen and combined for tonight's shutout.
