Cajuns set to Open Season Saturday

LAFAYETTE- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team will kick off their 2009 spring schedule Saturday, when they take on Grambling State at 2 p.m. at Cajun Courts. The Cajuns are coming off a good fall season and will be at home for their first three matches this season.
Head Coach Mark Jeffrey said, “The team is anxious to start the season. We will be ready to play Saturday.”
The Cajuns have three regionally ranked players, two individuals and one doubles team. Piotr Banas is ranked 20, and Javier Pulgar-Garcia is ranked 24. The doubles team of Banas and Piotr Olechowski is ranked 7.
As a freshman Pulgar-Garcia is quickly becoming a force in the region after a very strong fall.
Banas, a junior, has continued his strong play from last year, in which he garnered 2008 Sun Belt All-Conference honors and was ranked 99 in the ITA polls.
The Cajuns lone senior Arlen Domoney is also coming off a strong fall season. He and Banas the only returning upper classmen will have to lead the young Cajuns throughout the season. The Cajuns have one other junior in transfer Bradley Bristow, two sophomores, one redshirt freshman and five freshmen.
Following the match with Grambling State, the Cajuns will have a double dual with Southern and Alcorn State Friday, February 13.
