WBB Opens Season on the Road

HOUSTON, Texas-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team is set to tip off the 2008-09 season with a road game at Texas Southern in Houston. The Cajuns finished the 2007-08 campaign with an 8-22 overall record.

The Cajuns are under the direction of second-year head coach Errol Rogers.

The game with the Tigers marks the first time Rogers will square off with Texas Southern. Traditionally, the Ragin' Cajuns have been successful against TSU, boasting an 11-1 (.917) record against the Tigers all-time.

Rogers enters the game with a 1-2 career mark against teams from the state of Texas and a 0-2 record in the Lone Star State.

Last season, the Cajuns fell 76-43 to No. 20 Texas on Dec. 16, 2007 and dropped a 77-58 decision on the road to North Texas on Jan. 12, 2008. Rogers and the Cajuns claimed a 68-63 victory at home on Feb. 27, 2008 against North Texas.

The 2008-09 Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team is comprised of 16 players. Of those 16 players, seven are from the Pelican State, nearly 44-percent of the roster. The Cajuns boast four players from the state of Texas - Alexis Green (Dallas), Mercedes Johnson (Houston), Nicole Morris (Cypress) and Krystal Motley (Houston).

The Cajuns have nine new players on the team this season, which accounts for over half of the roster (56.3 percent). Of the remaining seven players, only Whitney Dunlap has more than one varsity letter.

The Ragin' Cajuns enter the game after a 53-52 victory over LSU-Shreveport in an exhibition game at the CAJUNDOME on Nov. 4. Jasmine Barnes led all Cajuns with 14 points, while Green paced UL with seven rebounds. Also of note, Johnson posted a team-best five blocked shots.
