LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held on to claim a 2-1 victory over in-state rival Southeastern Louisiana on Friday night at the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

The Ragin' Cajuns (3-2-1) victory was the first in school history over the Lions (4-1-0).  Entering the night, the Cajuns were 0-2-1 against Southeastern Louisiana.  UL lost the only other meeting between the two teams in Lafayette by a score of 2-0.  Last season's match in Hammond ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Cajuns needed goals from Kelli Jestes and Taylor Zak to claim the 2-1 victory.

Jestes collected the ball off of a deflected pass and slipped a slow roller past the SLU goalie in the first half.  The goal was Jestes' third of the season, tying her with Stephanie Lynch for the most on the team.

With under 10-minutes gone in the second half, Zak collected a rebound off of a missed shot and put it in the back of the net to push the score to 2-0.  The goal was Zak's first of her two-year career.

Zak's goal proved to be the difference as the Lion's Dana Mayer snuck the ball past the Cajuns' goalkeeper Kristen Malen.

Malen had just one save on the night as the Cajuns' defense kept Southeastern Louisiana out of scoring position.  Her lone save was a match-saving goal as she knocked a ball away from the goal that hit off of the crossbar, nearly breaking the plane of the goal.

UL was clearly the aggressor on the night.  The Cajuns took 13 shots, compared to just four by the Lions.  Six of the Ragin' Cajuns' shots were on goal compared to just two by SLU.

The Cajuns had a 5-to-1 shot advantage in the first half with four shots coming on goal.

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns will finish their home stand on Sunday afternoon with a match with Northwestern State.  Kickoff against the Demons is slated for 1:00 p.m.
