LAFAYETTE-For the third game in a row, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team fell behind to Arkansas State, but unlike the first two games of the series, the Cajuns were unable to come from behind.  The Cajuns (32-13, 15-6 SBC) dropped a 4-2 decision to the Indians for just their second home loss of the season.

Starter Brent Solich (4-1) took the loss despite an excellent day on the mound.  The junior southpaw surrendered three runs, with just one earned run in 6.2 innings of work.  He scattered six hits on the day, but was hurt by five doubles that he surrendered.  Solich fanned six batters while issuing just one free pass.

Relief pitcher Danny Farquhar was equally as effective on the mound.  The sophomore hurler surrendered just a pair of hits in 2.1 innings of work.  He allowed one run, while striking out four of the 11 batters he faced.

Offensively, the Cajuns collected just five hits on the day with no extra base hits.

No Ragin' Cajuns player had multiple hits on the day.  Matt Hicks and Josh Logan were the only two Cajuns to cross the plate on the day, while Devon Bourque and Scott Hawkins drove in the only two runs for UL.

Arkansas State plated a run in the first inning to take an early lead.  A hit batter on the first pitch of the game started things off for the Indians.  After a fly ball recorded the first out of the inning, a double down the right field line gave ASU a pair of runners in scoring position.  A sacrifice fly plated the lead runner and saw the Indians take an early 1-0 lead after one inning.

The Cajuns answered in their half of the first inning.  Logan drew a five-pitch walk to lead things off for UL.  Logan stole his team-leading 14th base of the season to move into scoring position.  With a full count, Xavier Alexander was hit by a pitch to give the Cajuns a pair of base runners.  A fielder's choice erased Alexander, but moved Logan to within 90-feet of home.  A sacrifice fly from Hawkins scored Logan from third and tied the game at 1-1.

The Ragin' Cajuns added a run in the bottom of the second inning.  With one out Hicks drew a four-pitch walk to give the Cajuns their first runner of the inning.  Matt Casbon singled to center field for UL's first hit of the game.  A bloop single by Bourque scored Hicks from second and gave the Cajuns their first lead of the game at 2-1.

The Indians regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning.  With one out, the Cajuns committed an error to allow the first ASU base runner of the inning.  A fielder's choice eliminated the lead runner, but an RBI double down the left field line tied the score at 2-2.  A second consecutive double plated the go ahead run and saw the Ragin' Cajuns trailing 3-2 after five and a half innings of work.

Arkansas State added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning.  After a strikeout to lead off the inning, the Indians got a single up the middle to get things going.  A ground out moved the runner to second base, and an RBI single plated the runner and extended the Arkansas State lead to 4-2.

The Cajuns were unable to score in either the bottom of the eighth or the ninth despite bringing the tying run to the plate in both innings.

The Ragin' Cajuns will not play any midweek games during the upcoming week and will return to action on Friday, May 4 as they travel to Louisiana-Monroe to take on the Warhawks in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
