Pair of Top-5 Finishes Pace Cajuns

RUSTON, La.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's golf team got a pair of top-five performances from Michael Smith and Devin Carrey to wrap up the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Invitational in fifth place.

The Cajuns finished the tournament with a final score of 865 (+1). UL finished just five strokes back of tournament champion Ole Miss. The Rebel finished the tournament with a four-under par tournament score of 860. Louisiana State finished two strokes back of Ole Miss for second place, while tournament host Louisiana Tech finished in third. Jacksonville State finished one stroke ahead of UL for fourth, while the Cajuns rounded out the top five.

Michael Smith was one of four Cajuns after day one to turn in a one-over par round of 73. He started the day in a tie for 23^rd, but put together back-to-back rounds of 69 to finish the tournament in third place.

Smith finished just two strokes behind Louisiana Tech's Matthew Harvey who was the tournament medalist.

Just two strokes back of Smith was Carrey. The junior opened the day with a 73, but shaved off six strokes in the final round for a team low 67.

Kyle Pritchard turned in a solid performance for the Cajuns. Pritchard finished the tournament at four-over par after turning in rounds of 73, 74 and 73.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Dustin Petit and Morgan Landry.

After an opening round of one-over par, Petit moved to even par with a sub-par 71 in round two. Petit slipped in the final round turning in a scorecard of 77 for a 35^th place finish.

Landry, typically one of the Ragin' Cajuns most consistent golfers, did not have the tournament he would have liked. After opening with a two-over par 74, Landry carded two rounds in the low 80's (81-80) to finish the tournament in 87^th.

The Ragin' Cajuns will now take a little time off before returning to the links on Saturday, Nov. 4 as they host the annual Battle on the Bend golf tournament at Cypress Bend Golf Club in Many, La.
