Buddy Glass pitched eight scoreless innings to lead the Cajuns
LAFAYETTE-Sophomore pitcher Buddy Glass recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts to lead Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns to an 8-0 victory over in-state foe Nicholls State Tuesday night at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
Glass allowed no runs on just two hits, fanning 14 and walking just one.
He tied a career high with 8.0 innings pitched. The Clermont, Fla., native pitched eight innings against UC-Davis on March 4, 2005, as the Cajuns downed the Aggies 6-2 in Hawaii.
In Tuesday's game against Nicholls State, only one runner advanced past first base.
The righthander currently has 21 strikeouts in just two appearances against the Colonels. In 15.0 innings of work, Glass has allowed just a pair of free passes and no extra base hits.
The Cajuns scratched the scoreboard in the first inning. Senior Josh Landry got his first extra base hit of the season as he ripped a triple to left centerfield. Landry crossed home plate thanks to a two-out double Jefferies Tatford. Tim Santiago plated Tatford with an RBI single up the middle.
The two runs would prove to be enough, but the Cajuns added some insurance runs in the latter innings.
The Ragin' Cajuns added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Cajuns recorded 13 hits as a team including seven extra base hits. UL ripped a pair of triples and five doubles on the night.
John McCarthy and Santiago led the way for the Cajuns, both collecting three hits including one double apiece.
Landry had a pair of hits on the night including his triple in the first inning that led to the Cajuns first run of the night.
Jonathan Lucroy had only one hit in the game, but made it a good one ripping an RBI triple into center field. The triple was the of the sophomore's career.
McCarthy also stole his team leading ninth base of the season. The Cajuns are currently 5-0 when the Palos Park, Ill. native steals a base.
The Cajuns will return to action on Friday, March 10 through Monday, March 13 as they compete in the Texas-San Antonio Tournament. UL will hit the field Friday morning at 11 a.m. as they take on Illinois in the first game of the tournament. The Cajuns will continue play on Saturday, March 11 against Texas A&M at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the Cajuns are set to play Iowa at 11 a.m. The Cajuns will conclude play in the tournament taking on tournament host UTSA on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.
