NEW ORLEANS-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns opened conference play on Thursday night with a 77-51 win at New Orleans

UL (8-3, 1-0) improved to 4-1 under Coach J. Kelley Hall in conference openers, having won four straight.

The Cajuns increased their winning streak to seven straight games against UNO (5-5, 0-1).

Louisiana took a 27-point lead into the second half thanks to tenacious defense and a fierce inside presence.  UL held UNO to six baskets en route to 17.6 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.  Meanwhile, the Cajuns post players Sonora Edwards and Yolanda Jones each had 12 points and combined for 16 rebounds.  The Cajuns held a 22-4 edge in points in the paint.

The Cajuns 45-18 halftime lead quickly jumped to 50-18 in the first 62 seconds of the second half with a three-pointer from Edwards and a bucket by Jones.

Louisiana continued to run and put the game away over the next two-plus minutes, boosting their lead to 58-22 at the 16:28 mark.

Jones led all players with 22 points, while adding eight rebounds.  Edwards finished with 18 points and 12 boards for her third double-double of the season ? eighth career.  Point guard Jeanenne Colbert had an excellent game distributing the ball, finishing with five points, five rebounds and eight assists.

The Cajuns started the game with a 23-5 run over the first 10:50.  Jones helped the burst with eight points and four rebounds, while Edwards had four points and six rebounds.  Colbert and Alicia McDaniel aided the effort with a three-pointer apiece.

Jada Frazier scored seven points for UNO as the Privateers cut the Cajuns lead to 29-13 at the 6:15 mark.

Leading 33-16, UL used an 11-0 run to take complete control of the game.  McDaniel and Edwards started the run with baskets before a tripled by Onna Charles.  Colbert and Jones followed with baskets to give the Cajuns a 42-16 advantage.

Thursday's game capped an 11-game road stretch by the Cajuns to begin the season.  UL will play their first home game on Saturday night at 7pm at Earl K. Long Gym.
