Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La.-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team suffered their second loss of the season as they dropped a 65-31 decision to in-state foe No. 10 Louisiana State on Thursday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.  With the loss the Cajuns fall to 2-2, while the Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season.  Both of UL's losses this season have come at the hands of ranked opponents.

The Cajuns could not get anything going offensively as the LSU defense forced the Cajuns into 21 turnovers and countless bad shots.

The Ragin' Cajuns were held to just 22 percent shooting on the night.

Sonora Edwards paced the Cajuns with 10 points and Baton Rouge native Whitney Dunlap finished with nine points on the night.  Dunlap connected on a trio of three pointers in her homecoming.

Yolanda Jones scored seven and led the team with 10 rebounds.

After allowing a quick lay-up to open the game, the Cajuns used a basket from Sonora Edwards and a three-pointer from Jones to take a 5-2 lead over the host Tigers.

Dunlap's triple at the 14:17 mark cut the Tigers' lead to 10-9, but then the Cajuns would go cold from the floor.

LSU proceeded to go on an 11-0 run, holding the Ragin' Cajuns scoreless for the next 9:10, until Jones ended the scoring drought with a lay-up.

Edwards cut the Lady Tigers' lead to single digits with 3:31 to play in the first half.  Edwards took a bounce pass from Jeanenne Colbert past the LSU defense for an easy lay-up, cutting the lead to just nine.

All-American Sylvia Fowles scored the game's next seven points to build the Lady Tigers lead up to 16 points.

Dunlap's second triple ended the first half with the Cajuns trailing by 13 points, 29-16.

In the second half, it was all LSU.  The Cajuns managed just 15 points in the second half as the Tigers dominated the second frame.

The Tigers began the second half with a 17-1 run that spanned 8:51, increasing their lead to 46-17.

Onna Charles kept the Cajuns from being shutout in the first five minutes of the second half as she made the second half of a pair of free throws at 15:07

Edwards added a pair of free throws with 11:09 on the clock to stop the LSU run.

Alicia McDaniel added a pair of freebies with 10-minutes remaining, as the Ragin' Cajuns first five points of the half were all by way of free throws.

UL's first field goal of the second half came with 8:08 left on the clock.  Edwards took a pass from Jones under the basket for the lay-up.

The Cajuns managed just three more field goals in the game as Dunlap drained a three, Courtney Ratliff made a lay-up and Edwards dropped a long jumper.

The Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18 as they travel to Edinburg, Texas to face Texas-Pan American.  Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.  The game will be the fifth consecutive game for UL away from Lafayette
