LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie South Alabama 2-2 on Friday night at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

Trailing 2-0, Courtney Hofland scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to put the Cajuns on the scoreboard.  The zesty goal was set up by a corner kick by Bridgette Adorno.

The Cajuns tied the match six minutes later as UL used excellent passing to score their second goal of the match.  Lindsay Webb passed the ball to Hofland who immediately dished the ball off to Taunya Geelhoed.  Geelhoed took the pass and slipped the ball past the diving goalie for the match-tying goal.

Neither team was able to put the ball in the net in the overtime periods.  Both teams had some excellent opportunities to score, but a strong defensive effort by each team prevented any goals from being scored.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Weston surrendered two goals on the night, but made five saves, including several match-saving stops.  Weston had a pair of saves in the overtime periods to keep USA from scoring.

The Cajuns trailed 1-0 at intermission after the Jaguars scored an early goal.

South Alabama worked the ball around with a series of passes.  Cortney Stewart passed the ball to Jenn Edgar.  Edgar passed the ball to Sam Stocker in front of the goal.  Stocker scored her eighth goal of the season to give the Jaguars the lead.

The Cajuns had their chances to tie up the score in the first half, but were unable to put the ball in the net thanks to some excellent defensive plays by USA.

Callie Oliver entered the game and her first two shots-on-goals were heading to the back of the net before South Alabama's goalie Kelsie Langford made two diving stops to keep the Ragin' Cajuns scoreless in the first half.

With two-and-a-half minutes to play in the first half, a player on each team collided causing a stoppage in play.  The Cajuns subbed in a player, but the Jaguars opted to play a man down.  Despite the one-player advantage, the Ragin' Cajuns were unable to score and tie the match.

In the second half, USA increased their lead to two goals.  USA's Edgar broke free of a scrum in the middle of the field and took the ball the distance for the score.

The Ragin' Cajuns will continue play on Sunday, Oct. 22, as they take on Troy in a Sun Belt Conference match at 1 p.m.
