LAFAYETTE – Josh Landry and Justin Morgan combined for six hits and seven RBI, helping lead the 20th-ranked Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team to a 12-3 victory over Texas-Pan American here Friday night at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
Louisiana-Lafayette (27-6) has now won four straight games and seven of its last nine home games. Louisiana-Lafayette pounded out 19 hits, which is tied for third-most this season. Justin Morgan's RBI single to center field plated Morris, giving the Cajuns a one-run advantage.
The Cajuns' one-run lead soon became a seven-run advantage, as the Cajuns scored six runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead. John Coker led off with a single up the middle. Josh Landry then doubled down the left field line, scoring Coker to give the Cajuns a 2-0 lead.
John McCarthy advanced Landry to third with a double to center field. Lucroy's walk loaded the bases. Morris and Hawke both struck out swinging. Morgan's two-out, bases-loaded single to center field scored McCarthy and Landry to increase the Cajuns lead to 4-0.
Parker then singled up the middle, plating Lucroy for a 5-0 advantage. Justin Merendino continued the Cajuns' big inning with a two-RBI triple to right-center field to give the Cajuns a 7-0 lead.
Louisiana-Lafayette's offensive display continued in the fifth and sixth innings. The Cajuns added one run in the fifth on Landry's RBI-single to center field, scoring Parker to take an 8-0 advantage.
The Cajuns scored three more runs in the sixth to take an 11-run lead. After a Broncs pitching change, Morris led off with a double to left-center field and advanced to third on a fielding error by UTPA centerfielder Louie Alamia. Hawke was then hit by a pitch and Morgan followed with a sacrifice fly which plated Morris to give the Cajuns a 9-0 lead.
After Parker flied out to center field, Merendino doubled down the left field line, advancing Hawke to third. Hawke later scored on fielding error by UTPA shortstop Aaron Flowers. Merendino later scored on a Landry RBI double down the right field line, giving the Cajuns an 11-0 advantage.
