Baseball Poll
LAFAYETTE –
The No. 19-ranked
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns senior third baseman Dallas Morris
was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as
announced Monday by the conference office. It marks Morris'
second weekly honor in his career. Morris, a second team
All-Sun Belt selection in 2004, was named Sun Belt Player of
the Week on April 12, 2004.
It is also the first Player of the Week award for the Cajuns this season. Earlier this year, Kevin Ardoin was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 14.
Last week, Morris, a preseason 2005 Brooks Wallace Award candidate, led the Cajuns to a 4-1 record and a tournament title at the First Hawai'i Title Rainbow Baseball Classic in Honolulu. Morris batted .471 (8-for-17) with a home run and six RBI, including a 3-for-6 performance in the Cajuns' 19-3 rout of No. 15 Wichita State last Tuesday. For his efforts, Morris was named to the All-Tournament team.
Morris is now batting .275 with two home runs and 12 RBI.
Louisiana-Lafayette (14-1) moved up three spots to No. 19 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 poll which was released on Monday. Entering the tournament in Honolulu, UL Lafayette was ranked No. 22. The Cajuns remain No. 21 in the Baseball America Top 25 poll.
The Cajuns cracked into the Sports Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll at No. 24. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 35 Poll was not available at press time. The Cajuns entered last week ranked No. 24 in the NCBWA Top 35 Poll.
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns return to action Wednesday to host McNeese State at 6:30 p.m. at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
