LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns starting pitcher Kevin Ardoin struck out a career-high 13 batters in a complete-game 8-1 victory over Le Moyne College here Friday night at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

Ardoin (5-0) allowed one run, while scattering five hits with two walks and has struck out 24 batters in his last 16 innings on the mound. Last Saturday, Ardoin struck out 11 batters in a no-decision against Minnesota.

Louisiana-Lafayette (18-3), ranked No. 16 in this week's NCBWA Top 35 Poll, is now 11-1 at home, while Le Moyne (2-7) drops its fifth consecutive game.

Le Moyne's starting pitcher Michael Falasca (0-1) went two innings, allowing five runs on three hits with three walks.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, senior third baseman Dallas Morris hit his fourth home run of the season with a two-run opposite field shot that gave the Cajuns a 2-0 lead.

The home run extended Morris' hitting streak to a team-high 12 games, which also ties Morris' career high set last season.

The Cajuns added three more runs in the second to increase their lead to 5-0. After Phillip Hawke flied out to center, Jonathan Lucroy singled up the middle, followed by a Micah Cockrell double to center field. Coker then drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Lucroy later scored on a wild pitch and Cockrell scored behind him on a throwing error by the catcher. Coker advanced to third on the play. Justin Merendino followed with a walk. Coker later scored and Merendino advanced to second on errant throw to first base by Falasca.

Le Moyne finally got on the board in the fourth to cut the Cajuns' lead to 5-1. With two outs, Michael Affronti doubled to left center field and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. Affronti then scored on another wild pitch.

UL Lafayette hung another three-spot - this time in the fifth inning - on the scoreboard giving the Cajuns a seven-run advantage, 8-1. Josh Landry led off with an infield single. Landry advanced to second on a fielding error by Affronti and Morris reached on a fielder's choice. John McCarthy's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Le Moyne pitcher Craig Soja intentionally walked Hawke to load the bases again for the Cajuns.

Lucroy then made the Dolphins pay for their "mistake" with a two-RBI double to right-center field, plating Landry and Morris to give the Cajuns a 7-1 advantage. With two outs, Hawke later scored on a wild pitch to increase the Cajuns' lead to seven runs.

Morris went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Landry extended his hitting streak to seven games after a 1-for-4 performance. Lucroy went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Cockrell went 2-for-3 from the plate.

Le Moyne's Aaron Bulkley and Affronti both went 2-for-4.

Louisiana-Lafayette will continue its weekend series with Le Moyne on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. Saturday's game will be televised on KLAF-TV Channel 17 in the Lafayette area.
