Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns win 20th straight home game.

Monday, Dec. 12, 2005

LAFAYETTE-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns extended the nation's sixth longest home court winning streak with a 91-50 victory over Louisiana State-Shreveport on Monday night at Earl K. Long Gym.

UL improves to 7-1, while the Lady Pilots fall to 6-3. The Cajuns have won seven straight games.

Yolanda Jones led the Cajuns with career bests in points (32) and rebounds (20). Jones becomes the first Cajuns women's basketball player to score 30+ points since Frederica Wills vs. South Alabama on Feb. 10, 1994. Her 20 rebounds are the second most in school history, tying Bernadette Griffin, who grabbed 20 boards on Jan. 6, 1981.

Onna Charles recorded her second career double-double with 17 points and a career-tying 10 rebounds. Ashley Blanche added 10 points and six assists, while Alicia McDaniel had nine points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Jeanenne Colbert made her long awaited Cajuns debut and scored 11 points in 18 minutes. She was 4-of-7 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from three-point range. It was her three-pointer that closed the Cajuns scoring in the first half.

UL took a 47-24 lead into the locker room thanks to a huge first half run in both scoring and rebounding. The Cajuns dominated the boards, 29-18 in the first half and 60-30 in the game.

The Cajuns never trailed, quickly jumping out to an 11-4 lead thanks to three baskets by Jones, a bucket by Blanche and a three-pointer from Charles.

The Lady Pilots came back with a 5-0 run to get within two points, but the Cajuns countered with a 23-5 surge to take control of the game.

The Cajuns scoring blast started with a free throw from McDaniel and was followed by an offensive rebound and put-back by Charles. Jones then scored six straight baskets in a furious tilt that saw the Cajuns crash the boards with a fury. Jones scoring rush gave her 18 points to the Lady Pilots 14 points at that point in the game.

Charles connected on her second triple and Blanche scored on a three-point play before another bucket from Charles ended the Cajuns scoring blast.

By the time it was over, UL led 34-14 at the 6:36 mark of the first half.

The second stanza saw Louisiana in cruise control, outscoring LSU-S 44-26 to cruise to the 41-point victory.

The Cajuns hit the road for three straight games, starting with a road game on Thursday at Savannah State. UL's next home game will be Friday, December 30 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
