Cajuns Hit the Road for Two SBC Matchups
The Ragin' Cajuns will face Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee

Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.–The Sun Belt Conference soccer season hits the midway point this weekend for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team.

UL (3-5-3, 1-2-1) moves into the second half of the 2005 Sun Belt soccer season with conference match No. 5 here Friday evening against Western Kentucky (3-6-3, 1-1-1) at the WKU Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Friday's match is the first of two on the road this weekend for head coach Scot Wieland and his squad. Following the WKU match, UL heads to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to square off against reigning SBC champions Middle Tennessee on Sunday, Oct. 16. The match against the Blue Raiders will begin at 1 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off of a heartbreaking loss to North Texas last Friday and a tie against Denver last Sunday.

North Texas scored a goal with 25 minutes remaining in the match to take the 1-0 win.

Against Denver, freshman Erika Saffer scored her second goal of the year to give the Cajuns a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Ragin' Cajuns took the lead deep into the second half before a Pioneer goal knotted the score at one apiece. UL had a chance to win the match in the extra frames. Stephanie Lynch missed a penalty shot in overtime that could have given the Cajuns the win.

Now the Ragin' Cajuns are looking to add some victories to their conference record. That's important considering that only eight of the SBC's 10 teams will qualify for the conference tournament to be held Nov. 2-5 in Mobile, Ala.

The Cajuns are seeking to snap a three-match losing streak against WKU. The Hilltoppers defeated UL 3-1 on Oct. 29, 2004, at the WKU Soccer Field in the last meeting between the two teams.

MT (6-4-2, 0-1-2) has won the last two meetings with UL. The Blue Raiders defeated the Cajuns 2-1 on Oct. 31, 2004, in the 2004 regular season finale in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
