Cajuns Close Out Spring With Win

Sunday, April 4, 2004

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team closed out its spring schedule Sunday with a match against the State of Louisiana '87 ODP team at Cajun Field.

The Cajuns scored the first and only goal of the match off a free kick from Sherryl Owens (captain) that was headed past the keeper by forward Kelli Good.

Louisiana-Lafayette played the match with only 11 players after midfielder Colleen Henry had to leave the game after the first couple of minutes with a head injury that required stitches.

Midfielder Meredith Smith was forced to take over the "center of the park" and was the game's unsung hero.

Anna Brannon (freshman goalkeeper last season) got the shut out in goal.

The Ragin' Cajuns will enjoy a summer break before opening drills for the 2004 season in August.
