LAFAYETTE-
Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns swept the three game weekend
set against Stony Brook with a 9-0 shutout of the
Seawolves Sunday afternoon at Moore Field.
The win went to Cajuns right-hander Josh Kohrs who
pitched seven innings without giving up a run on four
hits while striking out six.
Kevin Fitzgerald took the loss for Stony Brook who fell
to 1-5 with the loss. Fitzgerald went six innings
surrendering four runs (one earned) with one walk.
Kohrs set the tone early by retiring the side in the top
of the first, all at the plate to start the contest.
The Cajuns got on the board when Leonard Guerrero led
the bottom of the third off with a doubled to left and
advanced to third on a bunt single off the bat of Justin Merendino. Dallas Morris laid down a sacfrifice bunt of
his own plating Guerrero.
Seawolves designated hitter Nick Theoharis singled into
center with one out in the top of the fifth and advanced
on a Dave Mischo single to left. Kohrs would; however,
pitch out of the jam employing two fly outs to retire
the side.
A pair of errors cost the Seawolves three runs in the
bottom of the fifth, Guerrero reached on an error and
advanced to second on a single off the bat of Merendino.
Dallas Morris reached on a fielder's choice and advanced
to third on a throwing error that scored Merendino. Josh Landry singled to left center scoring Morris and giving
the home team a 4-0 lead.
Micah Cockrell started the bottom of the seventh on a
double to left and was advanced to third on a sacrifice
bund from Dallas Morris. Cockrell crossed the plate on a
wild pitch increasing the Cajuns lead to 5-0.
Jered Salazar came on in relief in the eighth retiring
the side in order with a grounder to short and sitting
two looking.
The Cajuns would add four more in the eighth, as the
Seawolves couldn't find their niche defensively,
committing another error and allowing a run to score on
a wild pitch. The inning was highlighted by a Dallas Morris triple off the left field wall to claim 2 RBIs.
The Ragin' Cajuns will host the Siena Saints in a two
game set Tuesday, March 2 and Wednesday, March 3.
Gametimes are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. for both contests.
