Texas-Pan American Hands Cajuns Stunning Loss

Ragin' Cajuns did not want to play on Monday night, by
evidence of their 56-38 defeat at Texas-Pan American.
A disappointing 12-point first half performance put the
Cajuns in an 18-point hole after 20 minutes. Head
coach J. Kelley Hall's squad converted only 3-of-22
(13.6 percent) from the floor and committed 15 turnovers
in the first half.
Louisiana-Lafayette (12-11) made a game of it briefly in
the second stanza.
An 11-3 run by the Cajuns cut the hosts lead to 33-23
just 4:10 into the second half. UL Lafayette made
five of their first seven shots.
UTPA (11-13) came back with six unanswered to take their
lead up to 16 points, but the Cajuns used a 9-0 surge to
trim the lead to 39-32 with 10:52 remaining.
After a pair of free throws by Kristi Dudley, the Cajuns
used five quick points to close within four.
Anna Petrakova's lay-up and a three-pointer by Bernette Tolston, the first successful triple by the Cajuns in 18
attempts, put the score at 41-37 with 7:55 remaining.
The Cajuns then collapsed, allowing UTPA to enjoy an 8-1
run and a 49-38 lead with 3:50 left in the game.
UL Lafayette's only point in the final
7:55 was a free throw by Petrakova.
Petrakova led the Cajuns with 15 points and 10 rebounds,
while Tiffany Washington contributed eight points and 10
rebounds.
Washington and Petrakova accounted for all of the Cajuns
scoring in the first half, with six points apiece.
Nine other players combined to shoot
0-for-12.
The Lady Broncs jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening
three minutes, which forced Hall to take out three
starters.
UTPA continued to dominate with Ashley Blanche, Sharee Glenn and Petrakova on the bench. The Lady Broncs
extended their lead to 13-2 seven minutes into the
contest. The UTPA lead went up to 18-4 before the
Cajuns starters checked back into the game.
The Cajuns starters fared not better upon re-entry.
The Lady Broncs outscored UL Lafayette 12-8 over the
final 7:30 to claim a 30-12 halftime lead.
