Clemensen, Malen Named LSWA All-Louisiana Honorable Mention

Monday, November 29, 2004

LAFAYETTE – Sophomore midfielder Rose Clemensen and freshman goalkeeper Kristen Malen were named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Women's Soccer team, earning honorable mention recognition, as announced Sunday by the association.

It is the fifth consecutive year that Louisiana-Lafayette has had at least one representative named to the team. Last season, sophomore midfielder Tiffany Garber earned honorable mention honors.

Clemensen (pictured, left), a native of Stouvring, Denmark, finished tied for the team lead in goals (six) and points (15). Clemensen led the Cajuns with two goals and an assist in a 6-0 victory over Louisiana Tech on Sept. 10. She added a goal in a 2-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Sept. 12 en route to McAlister's Deli South Louisiana Shootout Most Valuable Player honors.

Clemensen scored two goals and added an assist in the Cajuns' weekend sweep of Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock in October.

Malen (pictured, right), a native of Victorville, Calif., becomes only the third goalie in program history to receive All-Louisiana honors. Malen started 16 of the Cajuns' 19 matches between the posts. She finished with a 7-6-2 record and a 1.32 goals against average. Malen began her freshman campaign with a 4-1-1 record, which included shutouts against Jacksonville, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi Valley State.

She finished the season with five shutouts and a 3-3-1 record in Sun Belt play.

Clemensen and Malen join Anne Corbello (2000), Sara Vienberg (2001 & 2002), Leslie Beckman (2001), Melissa Purvis (2001), Stacy Smith (2002) and Garber (2003) as Louisiana-Lafayette's recipients of All-Louisiana honors.

The 2004 All-Louisiana Soccer Team was selected by the state's sports information directors. The top 10 vote getters, regardless of position, were named to the first team, as well as the top goalkeeper. Players named on multiple ballots were eligible for honorable mention recognition.
