WKU Upsets
Cajuns 3-1, Ends Road Unbeaten Streak Friday, October 29, 2004 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky scored two goals in the first 30 minutes of the first half which was enough to hold off the visiting Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team 3-1 here Friday at WKU Soccer Field. With the loss, Louisiana-Lafayette (7-8-2, 3-3-1 Sun Belt) snaps its three-match conference road unbeaten streak. Western Kentucky improves to 9-8 overall with a 3-4 Sun Belt mark. UL Lafayette is 1-4 all-time against the Lady Toppers. WKU opened the match with a quick score to go up 1-0. In the fifth minute, Leslie Anderson scored her first goal of the season, sending a shot over goalie Kristen Malen. Andrea Doogs and Alicia Dalby combined on the assist. The Lady Toppers increased their lead to 2-0 25 minutes later with Betsy Duncan's sixth goal of the season. Duncan shot home a Meredith Ringeisen rebound. Ringeisen and Christi Banas added the helpers for WKU. UL Lafayette closed the gap in the beginning of the second half. In the 52nd minute, sophomore midfielder Rose Clemensen scored her team-high sixth goal of the season. Clemensen's shot came from 10 yards out, slipping into the lower right corner of the net. Kristina Nadolski added the assist. Western Kentucky put the match out of reach in the 73rd minute. Joselyn Roach scored the Lady Toppers' third goal of the match to give WKU a 3-1 advantage. Ringeisen added her second assist of the match. WKU held UL Lafayette to just nine shots. The Cajuns' only shot on goal came on Clemensen's goal. UL Lafayette committed 15 fouls, while WKU committed 20 fouls. Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns will close out their 2004 regular season Sunday with a 2 p.m. match at Middle Tennessee.
