UL Lafayette and Alabama will be meeting for the first time in program history and it will be the Cajuns second match against an SEC team in the span of one week.
The Cajuns (4-3-1) enter Friday's match looking to snap a two-match winless streak. Last week the Cajuns fell 4-0 to LSU and then played McNeese State to a scoreless draw.
The match also marks the Cajuns first trip outside the state this season. UL Lafayette has played four road matches this season but they were all in-state trips.
The Cajuns are undefeated this season (2-0) on the opposition's home field with wins at Nicholls State and Northwestern State. Overall the Cajuns are 3-1 in matches away from Cajun Field.
Alabama (5-3) has won four of its last five matches and is 2-0 at home this season. The Crimson Tide has won 14 straight non-conference matches on its home turf and has not lost a non-conference home match since Sept. 22, 2000.
The Tide has scored 21 goals this season but 16 of them have come in three of the eight matches.
Likewise, the Cajuns have scored 15 goals with 10 coming in the season opener. UL Lafayette has found the back of the net just five times in the last seven matches and has not scored a first-half goal since the Aug. 29 Jackson State match.
The Cajuns will be playing the match shorthanded as four players are out with injury. Of the injured, the Cajuns are missing their leading scorer Tiffany Garber (4 goals) who suffered an ankle injury in the LSU match last Friday.
UL Lafayette will also be without the services of freshman forward Lauren Schwindt. Schwindt is serving a one-match suspension after receiving a red card in the McNeese match last Sunday.
Following Friday's match, the Cajuns will have one week to prepare for their Sun Belt Conference opener which takes place on Friday, Oct. 3 against South Alabama in a 7 p.m. match at Cajun Field.
