Gillis Leads Cajuns With Sixth Place Finish at Ragin' Cajuns Invitational

LAFAYETTE, La.- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country teams finished third and fourth respectively as the hosts of the 13th Annual Popeye's Ragin' Cajuns Cross Country Invitational here at Acadiana Park.

On the men's side Tulane won for the fourth consecutive year with 49 points total. UL Lafayette finished third overall with 82 points, just 12 points behind second place McNeese State.

Top runners in the 8k men's race for the Cajuns included senior Nick Bouterie, finishing 11th overall with a time of 27:22, while sophomore Justin Lemaire finished five spots back at 16th with a time of 28:00. Rounding out the top 30 for the Cajuns included junior Chad Campbell (28:19) in 21st place, junior Ryan Dupree at 23rd (28:24), and freshman Ben Schexnayder III (28:50) in the 29th spot.

On the women's side Tulane finished in first overall out of nine teams with 28 points. McNeese State placed second with 53 points, followed by New Orleans with 109 points and UL Lafayette in fourth with 112 points. Bessie Hatch of Tulane was the women's winner with a time of 18:46 in the 5k race.

Senior Natalie Gillis (19:26) led the Ragin' Cajuns with a sixth place finish, followed by senior Jennifer Block (20:42) in 22nd place. Juniors Analise Zaunbrecher (21:00) and Jennifer Gautreaux (21:06) rounded out the top 30 finishing 27th and 28th overall.

The Ragin' Cajun cross country team with next compete in the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge on Saturday, September 27.
