NEW ORLEANS - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team defeats the New Orleans Privateers by a score of 4-3 here at Maestri Field to complete the three game conference sweep. It was the first time ever that the Cajuns have swept the Privateers on the road. UL Lafayette (20-25) wins their fifth straight game and improves to 11-7 in conference play, while New Orleans (20-24) falls to 4-11 in the conference.

UL Lafayette went with junior left-hander Austin Faught against New Orleans right-hander J.P. Martinez.

Faught (4-3) pitched six strong innings, allowing just three hits and two runs to pick up his second straight Sun Belt conference win. He struck out seven Privateer batters and walked just one.

In Faught's last two starts he has given up just seven hits in 15 innings pitched.

The Cajuns scored first for the third straight game against the Privateers with four runs in the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead.

Designated hitter Bryan Sneed drove in Corey Coles with the first run of the game in the first inning with a triple down the right field line. Junior right fielder Kevin Preau extended the Cajun lead to three runs in the second inning with his second homerun of the weekend.

Second baseman Brad Saloom drove in the fourth run with a RBI single scoring Phillip Hawke in the fourth inning.

Faught held New Orleans to just two hits through the first six innings before running into trouble to open the seventh inning.

New Orleans rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to make it a one-run game at 4-3, but Cajun reliever Kraig Schambough held the Privateers hitless in the final two innings to preserve the win.

Schambough picked up his second save of the year after allowing just one run on two hits in three innings pitched.

Martinez (5-2) suffered his second loss of the season for UNO after giving up all four Cajun runs on six hits in four innings pitched.

Privateer reliever Thomas Diamond held the Cajuns to just one hit in the final five innings.

Corey Coles added to an impressive series performance by going 2 for 4 with one run scored on the day. Coles led the Cajun offense over the weekend by going 10-for-14 (.714) with four homeruns, seven runs scored, and nine RBI's.

Kevin Preau's two-run homerun in the second inning gave him 5 RBI's on the weekend to go with two homeruns, seven runs scored, and a .538 (7-for-13) batting average.

UL Lafayette improves to 20-25 overall on the season and 11-7 in the Sun Belt after the sweep.

Louisiana-Lafayette has now climbed into third place in the Sun Belt standings and is one game behind New Mexico State for first place in the Sun Belt standings. South Alabama and NMSU are virtually tied for first based on percentage points.

The Cajuns will travel to Hammond, La. on Tuesday for a make-up game against Southeastern La. before traveling to Lincoln, Neb. for a three-game series against the 6th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers starting Friday, May 2.
