UL Lafayette catcher Ryan Core led off the fourth inning with his second double of the game to right field. Core moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by right fielder Kevin Preau. First baseman Rhett Buras drove home Core with the first run of the game on a single to center field. Buras scored from second on a single to right field by second baseman Brad Saloom for the second run of the inning. Saloom scored the final run of the inning to give the Cajuns a 3-0 lead on a single by Dallas Morris.

Templet walked consecutive batters to open the inning before a sacrifice bunt and a ground out scored Chris Julo from third base for the first Trojan run of the game. Templet had retired nine consecutive batters entering the inning.

After giving up a walk to open the eighth inning Cajun starter Jordy Templet was relieved by junior Kraig Schambough. Schambough retired three consecutive batters to end the threat.

The Cajuns added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Ryan Core picked up a RBI with his third double on the day to score Corey Coles who led off the inning with a double of his own. Phillip Hawke drove home Core with a single to center field to give the Cajuns a four run lead. The RBI was Hawke's team best 24th of the year.

Trojan second baseman Chris Julo led off the ninth inning with a homerun to left field to make a three run game. Schambough retired the next three batters to preserve the 5-2 victory.

Schambough recorded his first save of the season after entering the game in relief of Templet in the eighth inning. He pitched two innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four batters. Aaron Carter (2-2) suffered the loss for the Trojans after giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
