EDINBURG, Texas- Louisiana-Lafayette stepped out of conference for the final time this season, traveling to Edinburg, Texas on Monday for a tilt against Texas-Pan American.

Solid defense and excellent shooting in the second half, 16-of-30, carried the Cajuns to a 66-41 victory.

UL Lafayette (5-14) allowed a season low 13 points at the half to enjoy a 26-13 lead at the break.

The Cajuns upped their lead to 44-20 in the first eight minutes of the second half thanks to a 13-2 run. Charlotte Green scored eight points over a four-minute span as the Cajuns shooting started to warm-up. All five starters on the court scored in succession for UL Lafayette before Bernette Tolston came off the bench to score in the spurt.

Jennifer Piwonka scored four straight points for UTPA, before the Cajuns started an 11-2 run to earn their biggest lead of the game, 55-26. Sarah Richey keyed the spurt with three straight baskets, then her first three-pointer after a Tammie White jumper.

Green led the Cajuns with 22 points, passing Shaunda Johnson-Bedel into eighth place on the Cajuns all-time scoring list. Richey scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added eight rebounds and four blocks. Ashley Blanche, making just her second career start, came within one point and three rebounds of a triple-double. The true freshman point guard scored nine points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed seven rebounds, not committing any turnovers in 29 minutes.

UTPA (4-18) made just 15-of-56 shots, led by 10 points apiece from Piwonka and Alex Gravel. The 41 points and 26.8 percent field goal percentage are both opponent lows for the Cajuns this season.

Naima Williams stopped the Cajuns 9-0 run to start the game on a basket with 13:37 remaining. Six minutes passed with the Lady Broncs in control of an 11-3 run to pull the hosts within one-point, 12-11.

Three-point shooting pulled the Cajuns out of their slump. Green knocked down a pair of triples before Anna Petrakova converted her own three to give UL Lafayette a 22-13 lead with four minutes left in the half.

The Cajuns ended with nine three-pointers, one shy of a season high.

The half ended with baskets from Brooke Williams and Blanche to help the Cajuns close the first 20 minutes on a 13-2 run.

The Cajuns will next play on Thursday at South Alabama.
