Lady Cajuns Celebrate the Holidays With Win at Beach Ball Invitational

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns made 15 free throws in the
second half, helping the team to a 62-56 victory over
Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the Carolina
Women's Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
UL Lafayette improves to 4-5, while Coastal Carolina
falls to 4-4.
The Lady Chanticleers picked-up their seventh foul of
the second half
with 10:34 remaining in the contest. The Cajuns made
15-of-20 free throws, accounting for nearly fifty
percent of their 33 second half points.
The Cajuns carried a five-point lead into the second
half, and held
that lead until a pair of baskets from Anna Petrakova
and a lay-up from
Tiffany Washington helped the Cajuns extend their lead
to eight, 41-33, with 13 minutes remaining.
The Lady Chants closed to 43-41 thanks to an 8-2 run
which ended at the 9:23 mark.
Free throws from Bernette Tolston and a basket from
Washington pushed the Cajuns back in front by six,
47-41, but another 8-2 run by CCU tied the game at 49-49
with 4:43 remaining.
Free throws from Morgan Mayon and an offensive rebound
and put-back by Nakita Scott gave the Cajuns a 53-49
lead with 3:42 left in the game.
After a Cajuns timeout, Mayon converted a steal into a
coast-to-coast
lay-up before Washington hit a jumper to surge the
Cajuns to a 57-49 lead with 2:39 to play.
A Nikki Reddick basket for CCU cut the Cajuns lead to
59-54 with 53.8
seconds remaining.
Sharee Glenn made two free throws and Petrakova another
to put the
Cajuns comfortably in front 62-54 with 31 seconds left
in the game.
Petrakova led the Cajuns with 23 points and a
career-best 19 rebounds.
No other Cajun finished in double figures. Tolston
and Mayon each had
eight points, while Washington, Glenn and Scott all
added six points apiece.
Reddick led the Lady Chants with 25 points.
Coastal Carolina benefited from several early Cajuns
turnovers to build
a 9-2 lead in the game's first six minutes.
The Cajuns found some offense in next five minutes,
outscoring the Lady
Chants 12-5 to tie the game at 14-14 with 9:22 left in
the first half.
UL Lafayette continued their run en route to a 20-14
lead with 6:38
remaining in the half, but Coastal Carolina came back
with nine
unanswered points to take a 23-20 lead.
Tolston's three-pointer tied the score, and six points
from Petrakova
in the last two minutes gave the Cajuns a 29-24 lead at
the half.
