Sacred Heart Hand Cajuns Second Straight Loss

Statistical Recap

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns turned the ball over repeatedly for the second straight game at the Maryland Terrapin Classic, falling 75-60 to Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at the Comcast Center.

Sacred Heart led by eight points at the break and extended that lead to 18 points four minutes into the second half. The Pioneers outscored the Cajuns 13-3 in the first four minutes of the second stanza to break open the game.

The Cajuns used an 16-5 run to cut the lead to single digits, 53-46, with 11:29 left in the second half. Morgan Mayon, Kayla Edwards, Nakita Scott and Anna Petrakova all contributed to the outburst.

The Pioneers answered with a 7-1 spurt over the next two minutes to take their advantage back to 14 points.

UL Lafayette struggled at times to find offense with leading scorer Bernette Tolston in foul trouble early and second leading scorer Sharee Glenn sitting for nearly the first 30 minutes of the game.

The Cajuns committed 20 turnovers to 16 by Sacred Heart. The Pioneers shot 37.1 percent from the floor to just 33.9 percent by the Cajuns.

Petrakova led the Cajuns with career-bests in points, 21, and rebounds, 15. Mayon added a career best 14 points and five rebounds.

The two teams needed time early in the contest to get used to one another, as evidenced by Sacred Heart's 7-6 lead seven minutes into the first half.

The Pioneers found their offense over the next three minutes to build a 17-10 lead, but the Cajuns came back with four points from Petrakova and a lay-up by Mayon to close within one-point.

Sacred Heart tried to pull away, but Petrakova wouldn't allow it. The junior forward scored nine straight points for the Cajuns, keeping the Pioneers lead to 27-23 with 3:44 remaining.

The Cajuns brought their deficit back to a basket on a jumper from Ashley Blanche, but the Pioneers scored six unanswered points to build a 33-25 lead with 1:55 left to play in the first half.
