Country Competes at Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2003 Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational here Saturday from the Razorback Cross Country Course. The Ragin' Cajuns women's team finished 26th out of 37 teams in the 6K race, while the men finished 29th out of 34 teams in the 10K race.
The host Razorbacks took the men's title with just 78 points, followed by Oklahoma (138) in second and Alabama (161) in third. UL Lafayette finished 29th overall in a very competitive field with a total team score of 775 points.
The University of Nevada took top honors on the women's side with 114 points, followed by Texas Tech (122) in second and Arkansas (153) in third. The Ragin' Cajuns women's team placed 26th with a team total of 724 points.
Senior Nick Bouterie was the top Ragin' Cajuns finisher on the men's side. The Lafayette, La., native finished 128th out of 263 runners with a time of 33:02.79 in the 10K. Westley Keating of Texas-Pan American took first place with a time of 29:25.86.
Other men's finishers included Justin Lemaire (33:40.02), Ryan Dupree (34:05.95), D.J. Hebert (34:10.95), and Ben Schexnayder III (34:48.18).
Natalie Gillis once again led the women's team by finishing 85th out of 285 competitors with a time of 23:00.50 in the 6K. Marlies Overbeeke of Virginia Tech won the women's race with a time of just 20:47.42.
Other notable women's runners for the Ragin' Cajuns included Jennifer Gautreaux (24:19.62), Jennifer Block (24:27.68), Leah Legere (25:00.78), Analise Zaunbrecher (25:14.76), Stacey Enright (25:26.91), and Laura Zaunbrecher (25:39.51).
The UL Lafayette men's and women's teams will next compete in the Lamar Invitational in Beaumont, Texas on Friday, October 18. The Lamar race will be the final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 1.
