Cajuns fall to Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, LA - Louisiana-Lafayette women's basketball fell on Monday night to No. 13 Louisiana Tech 81-50. The loss marks the thirty-eighth consecutive loss by the Cajuns to the Lady Techsters.
The Cajuns (1-4) were in the game early, tied at 8-8 six minutes into the contest. Sarah Richey hit the second three-pointer of her career to give UL Lafayette a 3-2 edge. Richey's three-point play minutes later would knot the score at eight apiece.
Turnovers then became the story, as UL Lafayette committed six over the next four minutes, helping Louisiana Tech go on an 11-0 run.
Brooke Williams made her first attempt since the season opener to stop the run and cut the Cajuns deficit to 24-14. The Lady Techsters then started another run, a 7-0 jaunt, to increase their lead to 31-14.
A long three-pointer by Charlotte Green at the buzzer put the halftime score at 43-20 in favor of Louisiana Tech (4-2).
Neither team could muster much offense in the opening minutes of the second half. The Cajuns trailed 51-29 with 13 minutes left in the game.
Up 55-34, the Lady Techsters used a 12-2 run to take a 31-point edge with eight minutes remaining in the contest.
Richey led all scorers with a season-high 18 points, including two three-pointers, and added six rebounds. Green chipped in 17 points. Anna Petrakova led UL Lafayette with a career-best eight rebounds.
Trina Frierson led four Lady Techsters in double figures with 17 points. Toya George had 15 points, Cheryl Ford collected 13 and Aarica Ray scored 11 points. Ford led all players with 11 rebounds, helping Louisiana Tech own a 42-31 rebounding advantage, including 15-7 on the offensive glass.
The Cajuns committed a season-high 25 turnovers and shot a season low 31.9 percent. Louisiana Tech shot 47.7 percent in the game, including 52.9 percent in the first half.
Louisiana-Lafayette returns to action this Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. matinee against Southeastern Louisiana at the Cajundome.
