Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team looked to snap a seven-game home conference losing streak on Thursday night against South Alabama.? The Jaguars defeated the Cajuns 63-46 back on Jan. 3, but UL Lafayette has traditionally played their opponents much closer at home.

??????????? The Cajuns managed just two points in the final 3:21 on their way to a 58-47 defeat.? The Jaguars scored just four points over the same span, but were content with running down the clock.? Louisiana-Lafayette fouled only once in the final two minutes.

The loss drops UL Lafayette to 6-15, 1-9, extending their home Sun Belt losing skid to eight games.? South Alabama improves to 15-5, 5-3.

Both the Cajuns' Sarah Richey and the Jaguars' Lyletha Gamble were hot in the second half, connecting from the floor in the early minutes.? UL Lafayette closed to 39-33 on a Richey jumper, but Gamble responded with an offensive rebound and putback.? From there, the teams traded baskets until the Cajuns called timeout with 3:21 left to play, down 54-45.

As was the story in the first meeting, USA dominated the boards, holding a 45-31 overall edge, and a 15-8 advantage on the offensive glass.

Richey led the Cajuns with 17 points and eight rebounds.? Brooke Williams chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.?? Gamble's 20 points and nine rebounds led South Alabama.

The Cajuns finally started well at home, enjoying a 7-6 lead five minutes into the contest.? Defense set the tone for the middle third of the half, as both teams struggled to score.? South Alabama regained the lead, 17-16, with four minutes left to play in the first half.? The Jaguars lead continued to expand over the final minutes until ending the half up 29-20.? The Cajuns committed only seven turnovers in the first frame, but shot just 29.6 percent and were outrebounded 20-13.

The Cajuns will host New Orleans on Saturday at 7pm.? UL Lafayette defeated the Privateers 70-64 on Jan. 5 to snap an 11-game road Sun Belt losing streak.
