With Thursday's game at South Alabama, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team entered 2002 looking to snap a 10-game road conference losing streak.

The Cajuns never had a pulse, trailing by double figures for most of the game en route to a 63-46 loss to the Jaguars.

?Louisiana Lafayette falls to 4-9, (0-3), while South Alabama improves to 11-3, (1-1).

South Alabama jumped out to a quick 16-7 lead over an emotionless Cajuns squad.? The Jaguars owned the boards, out rebounding the Cajuns 10-3 in the early going, including 6-0 on the offensive glass.

Head coach Gay Nix shuffled personnel several times, but never found the right mix to jump-start her team.

The first half ended with USA owning a 34-21 advantage.? The Jaguars held a 26-11 edge in rebounds.? The Cajuns managed just one offensive rebound in the first half, compared to 12 by South Alabama.? In fact, the Cajuns lone offensive rebound was a deadball possession.

The second half was more of the same, as the Cajuns could never muster the energy to make a run.? The Jaguars lead was never jeopardized.

“We were beat all over the boards,” said Nix.? “The effort was not there.? Nobody played with any excitement at all.”

The Jaguars out rebounded the Cajuns 53-27, holding a 25-6 edge on the offensive glass.

Sarah Richey led the Cajuns with 14 points and added one block.? Richey has 46 blocks in 13 games, one block shy of the single season team record of 47 set by Tiffany Green in 27 games in 97-98.

Anna Petrakova made her long waited appearance for the Cajuns with 11:38 remaining in the first half.? The Cajuns' freshman played a total of seven minutes, recording two points, four rebounds and one block.

The Cajuns will travel to New Orleans on Saturday to face the University of New Orleans at 7pm.

NOTES:? The last Sun Belt road game the Cajuns won was on Feb. 17, 2000 at Arkansas State.? Head coach Gay Nix is still looking to win her 38th career game, which would giver her sole possession of second place all-time in school history.? She tied Mary Jo Castell on Dec. 20, 2001 with a win over Mercer, but the Cajuns have dropped three straight since.
