Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns looked to avoid their third three-game losing streak of the season on Monday night, while Texas-Pan American invaded Earl K. Long gym with just eight players, three of which were coming off injury.

The Broncs lack of depth, coupled with the Cajuns intense defense, propelled UL Lafayette to a 70-61 win.? Louisiana-Lafayette improves to 6-11, while Texas-Pan American falls to 4-14.

Despite a large Cajuns lead, the game was far from over to begin the second half.? An early 11-4 Broncs run cut the Cajuns' lead to seven at 49-42.? The Cajuns responded with a 13-0 run to vault their lead back to 20 points.? From there, UTPA's cold shooting, just 34.8 percent for the night, would allow UL Lafayette to hold on for the victory.?

The Cajuns shot just 30.3 percent in the second half, after exploding for 51.6 percent in the first frame.

The Cajuns were led by Sarah Richey's 18 points and eight rebounds.? Breanna Evans, who provided solid play off the bench, had a season high 16 points.? Seven other players added points in the victory.

??????????? As has been the case all season at home for the Cajuns, it was the visitors who jumped out to a fast start.? UTPA led 8-2 in the early going, before the Cajuns tied the game at 12 points apiece.? Louisiana-Lafayette began to pull away midway through the half, taking a 20-13 lead, then stretching it to 25-16.? The Cajuns lead continued to expand, up 43-23 at one point, before taking a 45-31 lead at the end of the half.

??????????? The Cajuns will enjoy the rest of the week off before hosting New Mexico State at Long Gym on Saturday at 7pm.
