CAJUN CROSS COUNTRY OPENS 2000 SEASONS AT TULANE...Sept. 8, 2000 LAFAYETTE - Louisiana's Ragin Cajun cross country teams opened their 2000 seasons today in the Tulane Invitational at the Lakefront Course in New Orleans. The men's team finished fourth overall, with the women coming in at sixth. "I was really pleased with how both teams ran," Head coach Tim Lemaire said. Dodi Oubre led the women's team in the two-mile run with a time of 12:01.3 and finishing in 12th place. Following behind her was Analise Zaunbrecher who finished 16th overall with a time of 12:18. Other Cajun runners were Jeanne Menard (12:24.3, 19th), Laura Zaunbrecher (13:05.5, 35th), Brittany Olivier (13:19.9, 40th), Kelly Brown (13:37.5, 45th), Margaux Guidry (13:45.2, 48th), and Yoshika Taylor (13:57.4, 53rd). The University of Alabama came out with a first-place win with a score of 64 points, and coming in second was Mississippi State with a total of 82 points. Leading the men's team was Nick Bouterie who finished the three-mile run in 16th place with a time of 15:48.3. The sophomore was one of the Cajun's leading runners last season and was named the 1999 Louisiana Freshman of the Year. Another leader for the men's team was Walter Whitfield who came in with a time of 15:51, which put him in 18th place. Other Cajun runners were Benji Terracina (15:59.8, 20th), Adrian Garcia (16:17.6, 30th), Chad Campbell (16:49.5, 35th), Nick Meaux (17:01.4, 37th), and Ben Fisher (18:48.8, 46th). "I think we ran really well for our first time and I think that this meet gave us a good starting point for the season," Lemaire said. "We beat teams that we have never beat in the past, and I'm happy about that." Tulane took top team honors with a total score of 26 points. Following behind in second place was the University of Alabama with 41 points who also won the top individual award as Chris Mutai finished with a time of 14:47.3.
