MENARD NAMED TO ALL-LOUISIANA CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD ... Dec. 2, 2000
LAFAYETTE – After leading Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun
women's cross country team in three meets during the recent fall season, sophomore
runner Jeanne Menard capped the year by being named to the Louisiana Sports Writers
Association Women's Cross Country Team on Sunday.
A native of Eunice, Menard emerged during her sophomore campaign as
one of the Cajuns' most consistent performers. She posted four top 20 finishes in six
meets and captured the individual title at the Lamar Invitational with a time of 11:38 on
the two-mile course.
That victory helped lead the Cajuns to the team title at the
Beaumont, Texas, meet, believed to be the first meet championship in school history.
Also named to the team were Grambling State's Christina Brown,
Southeastern Louisiana's Amleset Kidane, McNeese State's Karen Lockeyer,
Tulane's Theresa Maru and LSU's Susanne Strunz.
McNeese State's Sita Waru was named the Runner of the Year
while New Orleans' Ron Davis earned Coach of the Year honors. Michaela Mannova of New
Orleans received Freshman of the Year honors.
On the men's side, Likhaya Dayile of LSU earned dual honors as
both the Runner of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year. Noah Murgor of Northwestern
State was recognized as the Freshman of the Year with McNeese State's Steve Baker
taking home Coach of the Year honors.
Voting was done by cross country sports information directors across
the state.
