Amber Gregg enters her sixth season as an assistant coach on the Louisiana Women's Basketball staff, spending most of her time working with the guards.
Under Gregg’s tutelage in 2019-20, the guards helped Louisiana compile a 19-12 overall record, earn the No. 4 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and advance the tournament semifinals. Sophomore Brandi Williams continued to cement herself as one of the team’s best scorers, ranking second on the team in scoring (11.7 ppg) and leading the team in 3-point field goals made (41). Skyler Goodwin and Jomyra Mathis were also bright spots for the guards, averaging 8.7 points per game and 7.8 points per game, respectively, during their junior campaigns.
In 2018-19, Williams was named the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, the first-ever in program history, after averaging 12.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest to set the freshman scoring record with 384 total points. She also set the single-season free throw percentage record after going 123-for-140 (.879) from the line.
During the 2017-18 season, Gregg was a key cog in helping Goodwin be named to the 2018 All-Sun Belt Conference Tournament Team.
Gregg came to Louisiana after spending five seasons as the Director of Player Development for the Austin Elite basketball program. She served as the head coach of the Austin Elite Boys 17U team from 2013-15 and held an assistant position for the Austin Elite Girls 17U team from 2011-13. Eleven of her players from the 17U boys team are currently playing Division I basketball. She has also trained eight players that are currently playing professional basketball.
Gregg coached and grew up with Austin Elite program for 10 years, which has been run by her father for over a decade. While with the Austin Elite program, Gregg has helped put over 90 girls in Division I colleges.
As a collegiate player, she enjoyed a decorative career at UTSA from 2007-2011, averaging 13.4 points per game. During her career as a Roadrunner, Gregg was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection, leading UTSA to a pair of Southland Tournament championships and two Southland Tournament regular season titles.
She left her mark at UTSA as the program's all-time three-point field goal leader (200) and is ranked ninth on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,143 points. Gregg's 32 points in a single game is tied for fifth-most in UTSA history while playing in 118 games, tied for the second-most for a Roadrunner.
