Shannon Popp begins her second season as an assistant track and field coach for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns working primarily with the throwers. Popp joined the Louisiana staff after spending two seasons at Elon (N.C.) University.

In her first year with the Ragin' Cajuns, she guided both Tamela Young (shot put) and Amie Leitko (hammer throw) to school records in their respective events. Popp also mentored Richard Delphin, who posted the third-best mark (181-8) in the hammer throw among student-athletes in the state of Louisiana.

In year two at Elon, Popp was instrumental in helping the Phoenix capture its second straight CAA outdoor track and field championship. She helped Bryanna Hames earn All-CAA honors in both the shot put and the discus with Hames breaking her school record in the latter event. Under Popp's tutelage, Hames became the first Phoenix thrower to reach the NCAA East Preliminaries in 2016.

During her first year with the Phoenix in 2014-15, Popp helped the maroon and gold throwers to a number of new personal-records while seeing Bre'anna Warren and Bryanna Hames earn trips to the ECAC Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season under Popp's watch, Hames captured the Colonial Athletic Association discus title while setting a school-record in the event and also the shot put. Warren also earned All-CAA honors while setting new personal-records in the discus and shot put.

Popp spent two seasons at Concordia University Irvine and guided her throwers to a number of achievements during her two seasons at the school including 11 all-conference honors between indoor and outdoor competition and six national qualifiers on both the men’s and women’s teams.

Prior to Concordia, Popp was the throwing coach at California Lutheran University for two seasons from 2010-12. While at Cal Lutheran, she had three national champions, six Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, five national qualifiers and 27 all-conference honorees. Popp’s throwers also set five new school records.

A decorated track and field student-athlete, Popp was a two-time USA National qualifier in the hammer throw in 2009 and 2010. She began her collegiate career at Moorpark College where she was the two-time California state junior college runner-up in the hammer throw. After lettering at Kansas State for a season, Popp finished her career at the University of Wyoming and was the Mountain West Conference champion in the hammer and weight throw in 2007. She also was a national qualifier for the hammer throw that season.

A native of Ojai, Calif., Popp graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor's degree in social science.
